Underneath The Lemon Tree

By Adrian Speyer

Sitting calmly with my thoughts,
Underneath the lemon tree,
Basking in the summer day.

A warm breeze dances through the leaves,
Swaying fruit hanging on a vine,
Ripening as time goes by.

Get rich quick with a new scheme,
Paint a butterfly resting on a dandelion,
Rework the mouse-trap,
Invent a new widget for the widget machine,
A list of a hundred more things to do,
But nothing done today.

The clock keeps ticking,
Time is running out,
Grab a lemon without a thought,
and smile while you bite.
